FIBERGLASS ASPHALT SHINGLES INSTALLATION DETAILS

Lay the plywood vertically and staggered. Allow 1/8” expansion gap at the joints and cover with thick asphalt cement or equivalent. Make sure that the surface is flat by using a string. Uneven surface will telegraph on the shingles so avoid them at all cost
Apply drip edges directly to the deck along the eaves and over the under lament along the rakes.

Lay the felt parallel to the eaves, lapping each course at least 2 inches over the underlying course. Secure the felt with only enough nails to hold it in place. If two or more pieces are required to continue a course, lap the end at least 4 inches. End laps in a succeeding course should be located at least 6 feet from end laps in the preceding course. Lap the felt 6 inches from both sides over all hips and ridges. Where the roof meets a vertical surface, carry the under lament 3 to 4 inches up the surface

The first course starts with a full length shingle. The second course then starts with a shingles that has 6 inches removed the third course with a shingle that has 12 inches removed and so on through the sixth course which starts with a shingles that has 30 inches removed. Adjacent shingles in each course are all full length. The seventh course again starts with a full length shingles and the pattern is repeated every sixth course
